- What is TİKA?
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) is a Turkish government official donor agency which implements development projects to support the countries’ development progress all over the world through its 62 offices and it was established in 1992 after the dissolved of USSR. The main objective of TİKAis to make a strong bond and create bridge with the countries to contribute the countries’ development progress by applying sustainable projects for the betterment of people and the country.
- Since when working in Pakistan?
TİKA established its office in Islamabad after the flood disaster of 2010 in Pakistan.
- In which areas TİKAproviding services?
Since TİKAis Turkey’s official development agency whose one of tasks is to coordinate the development assistance activities which are done by other official institution of Turkey, owing to its coordination task, TİKA can utilize all institutional capacities of Turkey within the framework of development so that TİKA can implement projects in many sectors. More specifically, TİKA has implemented many projects in health, education, water and sanitation, restoration activities, livelihood, technical and vocational education, agriculture and cultural cooperation since 2010.
- Where TİKA office is located in Pakistan?
TİKA has its office in Islamabad and recently a new office opened in Karachi in 2019.
- How many countries TİKA working?
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency is engaged in various development cooperation activities in 150 countries through its 62Programme Coordination Offices located in 60 countries.
- Is TİKA the government of Turkey part?
TİKA is an official development agency working under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey.
- What projects are being done in Pakistan?
As TİKA is a development agency, it always try to cover all the areas regarding sustainable development and try to support the countries to reach the sustainable development goals (SDGs). In this sense, for example in health sector,TİKAhas established RecepTayyipErdoğan Hospital, 150 beds it has, in Muzaffargarh in 2014.In education sector, TİKA has established EmineErdoğanGirls Schools in Basira Punjab in 2014 to contribute the education sector which is one of the crucial areas in Pakistan regarding the youth population. In vocational training,TİKA has established the Denim lab in Lahore with the collaboration of TEVTA Punjab, in livelihood TİKA has successfully completed beetle goat Project in Faisalabad and Honeybee Keeping Project in Chitral. TİKA will establish a centre of excellence in which training programs in tourism and hotel management will be applied in Islamabad. In 2019, TİKA implemented 28 projects in various sectors and reached out many people all over Pakistan. We had projects in urban and rural areas both. In this sense, we have projects in Peshawar, Islamabad, Lahore, Multan, Karachi and Faisalabad which are the biggest cities of Pakistan.
- Number of projects planned to do in Pakistan?
TİKA has different projects in pipeline that will be implemented in coming fiscal year like TİKA is going to establish the Center of Excellence in Islamabad; an MOU has been signed between Ministry of Education and TİKA. Besides that project in other sectors like health, water and sanitation, vocational trainings and agriculture will also be the part of future projects.
- Is there any collaboration of Pakistan in TİKA projects?
TIKA has a protocol signed with Government of Pakistan and working with Economic Affairs Division.TİKA and Pakistan government has been working together. TİKA implements the projects in collaboration with Pakistan Government.
- What kind of servicesexchange programs offered by TİKA? TİKA has different exchange programs with Turkey like training of teachers held in Pakistan last year in which 22 Turkish Instructors visited vocational and technical schools of Lahore, Faisalabad and Gujrat to provided training to 359 people, 261 students and 98 teachers in 11 different areas (accommodation and travel services, food and beverage services, clothing production technology, beauty and hair care services, installation technology and air conditioning, construction technology, electrical-electronics technology, metal technology and Turkish language and literature).Also the delegation of doctors from different government hospitals of Pakistan has been sent to Turkey for different trainings. Pakistani journalists have also participated in different trainings in Turkey every year. In 2019, TİKA implemented a youth project which is called “Experience Sharing Projects” through which 10 university students from Turkey visited Pakistan and joined to TİKA’s projects held in Islamabad and Lahore.
- Are Pakistani people working with TİKA?
Pakistani citizens graduated from Turkey are working with TIKA.
BW.What are the targets in future?
Tika. As education and health is priority areas of TİKA in Pakistan, Including vocational education, TİKA has realized many projects in the field of education and health. Sharing Turkey’s experience in the fields of education, healthcare, production, administrative and civilian management, and media through support to vocational education centers exchange programs, till date TİKA has trained many of experts by cooperating with similar institutions, organizations and nongovernmental organizations in Pakistan.
- How TİKA found working environment in Pakistan?
Ans. Though Pakistan and Turkey are two brotherly countries and have similar norms and values so the working environment is quite friendly for TİKA to work in Pakistan.
- Is the roleof TİKA important between Pakistan and Turkey?
Ans.TIKA is playing an important role to develop strong bonds between two countries and people of both countries weather it is experience sharing in health, vocational training media or whether its culture exchange. TİKA has a major impact in building government to government relationship by implementing development projects with the collaboration of Government of Pakistan.
- Is there any exclusive project in Kashmir? Kashmir project of TIKA?
Ans.InAJK, TİKA has done some water and sanitation and education projects. Health sector is to be planned in the near future.
